House

Home, sweet home.

During the 1997 school year, the Alpha Chapter Brothers knew that they had to have a central meeting point. They need a structure that represented who they were and what they stood for. They need something that when Alumni came back, they could show their children and family. They needed something that no other multicultural Fraternity had ever had before. A cubicle at the Student Union wasn't sufficient and a 4 bedroom house did not reflect their numbers or the level of status they wished to attain. They needed a house.

After the initial decision was voted on, the Alpha Chapters Brothers decided to plan out countless variations of fundraisers throughout the year to raise the needed capital in order to purchase a house. Through networking in various Greek circles, several Alpha Chapter Executives heard of various openings in vacated Fraternity houses. After several meetings with real estate companies and local banks, Alpha Chapter finally signed a purchase agreement and put down over $25,000.00 in initial capital. They had gotten their house.

The summer of 1998 saw many Brothers living in the house and fixing it up from dusk till dawn. Countless hours or blood, sweat and tears took a once abandoned house and transformed it into the beating heart of the Omega Delta organization. The 5 story house includes a full restaurant style kitchen, dinning room, living room, 3 wood fireplaces, computer lab, Executive offices, Chapter room, storage facility, weight room, pool room, balcony, front porch, backyard with basketball court and 27 private living quarters. Each living quarter is no smaller than the size of a regular dorm room, however each one is single. While all are no smaller than a regular dorm room, several rooms are as large or larger than a triple sized room in the dorms. Just this past year, the house has seen a complete new set of windows along with other various additions. Since it is hard to work on the house during the school year, constructions on all new external doors and a complete internal paintjob has been scheduled for summer 2005.

Today, the Omega Delta house sits next to some of the most prestigious and oldest Fraternities on campus and lies in the heart of the Greek community. During this past Homecoming Alumni Weekend, the history of the house was brought up and when asked, Founder Daniel Gaichis remarked, "When we started in the pursuit of a house, we only had one quote in mind:

...We've come to play with the big boys".
